The Scout joined our collection at the end of 2018 and its dotty design has been a favourite play mat for Totter + Tumblers since. Instantly recognisable, The Scout has a playful feel, but is designed with precision, to ensure the mat sits stylishly in family homes.
The Color Palette
For the color palette, The Scout takes a hint of the charcoal spotted detailing, to create the soft, white gray grounding. The monochromatic design makes a statement, while not overpowering in the space it is unrolled in.
The Pattern History
Simply meaning ‘One of a number of spots that form a pattern on cloth,’ polka dot patterns were thought of negatively until the 19th Century, when they began to be used for decoration. From there, polka dots have been seen repeatedly in different forms and scales. From the Pointillism movement to contemporary work of Japanese artist Yayoi Kasama, the dots still have a place in art, fashion and design today.
